Sabarimala Ayyappa Swamy Temple is one of the few temples in India which attracts millions of Pilgrims every year. Swamy Sri Dharmashasta (Manikanta) manifested here in this Yoga mudra form doing severe penance for ending the Kali (Demon) till the time being. He wanted a very isolated place for doing his penance and asked his father to build a temple on his instructions. The temple is located on Sabarimala Hill on the banks of Pampa river.
Ayyappa Swami was born to two male deity Lord Shiva & Lord Vishnu. He is a bramhachari for completion of his tapasya. Having Ayyappa Swamy Darshan in Sabarimala is limited to Men and Girl child below 12 years. Women who are above 55 years age after their Meno pause are allowed to See ayyappa swamy by temple authorities. Many People visit Sabarimala by trekking the five hills from Pampa River. Millions will take Ayyappa Mandala Deeksha Maala and wear black clothes follows strict Satvika and Bramhacharya during this time. Offerings for Lord Ayyappa are packed in black cloths called Irumudi consisting of a Coconut filled with Ghee & Provisions to use during the trek path.

The Travancore Devashom Board is the managing body of Ayyappa Swamy Temple in Sabarimala Hill. Generally Ayyappa Swamy temple is opened for only one week in a Month. These days are called maasapuja or Monthly Puja. There is no Online Ticket advance booking in the general days. But from September, October, November, December & January Virtual Q Tickets are issued. In these five months around 15 Lak Devotees visit Sabarimala every month. The temple will be open in most of the days in these months. These are the best time to visit Sabarimala.
